Office and Miscellaneous Services

Over time we have been asked to provide a number of ancillary services for clients, and we have codified these here to help to standardise them and make more widely available.

PAT Testing:

When, if an item of equipment comes into our offices and has not been PAT Tested in the last 12 months (electrical safety tested) as witnessed by a standard sticker on the device/cable as appropriate, then we will carry out this safety test and apply a fresh sticker to reflect this and we can both be confident of electrical safety of the device and demonstrate compliance with health and safety legislation relating to this. Note that new equipment which is directly delivered in from manufacturer / distributors does not need to be PAT Tested as this is part of their quality control.

We make a nominal charge for PAT Testing which is £3 per item tested. Note that computers and power cords are tested separately and thus would count as two items. Onega has a latest generation PAT Testing device which is designed for testing computer and studio equipment as well as general appliances.

Equipment Storage:

For some clients it makes sense for us to hold spares and equipment in stock, so that we can rapidly dispatch these to where they are needed at deployment and when they come back can then clean up / reset ready for next deployment. Where we allocate dedicated storage space for this equipment, we cross charge a small amount to cover the space allocation. This is charged at £25 per box per month for a 25-litre storage box (which will hold typically three laptops, chargers & their cases).

Desktop Hosting:

For server hosting we have our hosting centre with diesel generators, Dual circuit UPS, fire surpression, 24 hour guards, n+1 redundant airconditioning etc. but for desktop computers where you don’t need that level of availability, we can provide ‘office grade’ hosting at Onega’s offices at Trinity Buoy Wharf. These are connected to the internet via a shared Gigabit Internet connection and can be kept securely behind a firewall. We provide dry environment, mains power, internet and basic assistance if you have any issues accessing the computers. Note that the computers still need support (IT support) for patching / monitoring etc.) seperately which we will normally be providing in any case. There is a caveat that computers should be used for ‘normal fair and legal office use’ - ie not cryptominining etc. else we’d need to charge a lot more to cover the power consumption. For standard desktop PCs (i3/i5/i7) we charge £40 per month for hosting in our office. NB - if you are interested in how much your computer(s) cost to run just in terms of electricity, have a read of https://www.overclockers.com/how-much-does-it-cost-to-run-your-pc/ and / or you may like to buy a socket power meter ‘kill-o-watt’ style.
